Interactive Workshops: Monday, 26th November 2018

A workshop is offered in an intimate setting that enables you to enhance your learning experience. It is comprised of interactive formats that enable you to bounce ideas off other delegates to create thought-provoking experiences and note takeaways that you can implement in your workplace.

WORKSHOP A:

9:00 am - 12:00 pm Understanding Consumer Behaviour to Tailor Packaging and Improve Consumer Satisfaction and Engagement
Packaging is a strategic tool for enhancing competitiveness of food products. Viviana will explore the relationship between packaging, food products and consumer behavior in three stages of purchase decision; the pre-purchase, purchase and postpurchase stages. Packaging elements are highly important for consumers and are highly influential in their purchasing decision.

What will the workshop cover?

  • Developing unique packaging to differentiate and strengthen your brand
  • Strategies in understanding different demographics such as millenials to create targeted and appealing packaging that increases brand loyalty
  • Highlighting key drivers such as urbanization which fosters lightweight ‘on-the-go’ convenience packaging
  • Understanding the rise in consumer disposable income and identifying who is willing to pay for more convenient packaging
  • Combating the increase in competition by individualization to ensure product visibility

WORKSHOP B

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Opportunities for Extending the Shelf-Life of Food through Packaging Innovations
A longer shelf life makes the process of supplying and distributing perishable food products more efficient and sustainable. Packing perishable food products in the right protective packaging can stop degradation and triple shelf life. Longer shelf life reduces spoilage in the agrifood chain, cuts back on delivery frequency and minimizes food waste in consumer homes.

What will the workshop cover?

  • Made-to-measure food packaging
  • Tailoring food packaging for products based on gas permeability and oxygen transmission rates
  • Barrier packaging for extending shelf life in perishable food products that do not need to ‘breathe’
  • Addition of oxygen absorbers for products prone to oxidation to maintain flavor and freshness
